Flybe has hit back at a damning report from an aviation analyst that says the regional budget airline is one of 50 European carriers unlikely to survive the current credit crunch and rising cost of fuel. A spokesman for Flybe, which carried 7 million passengers last year, criticised it as ‘unwarranted speculation’.
Flybe chief operating officer Mike Rutter said: ‘It is not a gloomy outlook for Flybe, it is the exact opposite. We will shortly release details of record profits for last year. Our first quarter profits are ahead of 2007. We are probably the only airline in Europe to announce such positive results.’
