Child ID bands launched by Bristol Airport police

01.08.08

Police at Bristol Airport have launched a new identity wristband to help relocate children if they are separated from their families in the airport or whilst on holiday. The coloured wristbands cost £1 and parents write their contact details inside in permanent ink inside them. The money raised from the sale of the wristbands is going to the Cots for Tots campaign to help critically ill babies at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Maria Tudgee, a Community Support Officer at the airport, came up with the idea for the identity bands. She told the BBC: ‘We've timed the launch for the busy summer holidays. Officers will be on hand to offer mums and dads advice and help them fit the bands.'

‘The scheme will enable us to engage with parents and children as they come through the airport and help them realise how important it is to stay together and not wander off while on holiday.’

Alison Roberts, a spokesperson for Bristol Airport, added: ‘Thousands of families will pass through the airport during August. The wristbands will help reunite children with their parents should they get lost, whether it is on the beach or in the departure lounge.’
