A Cleeve parish councillor has called on Bristol Airport to do more to prevent aircraft using the site at night, the Western & Somerset Mercury reports. Councillor Hilary Burn was involved in a heated exchange with Paul Kehoe, the airport's outgoing chief executive, at a recent meeting.
Ms Burn told the Bristol Airport Consultative Committee annual general meeting that a flight either landed at or took off every 6 minutes from 23:30 - 05:30 on May 23, 24 and 25. The movements were close together because of a backlog of planes leaving after the Heineken Cup Final.
However, Mr Kehoe insisted he was legally bound to accept the flights. He said: ‘The airport has to be here to serve the greater good. The majority of residents in North Somerset benefit from it.'
After the meeting Ms Burn said: ‘Mr Kehoe did not take the concerns of Cleeve's residents seriously. It is outrageous that the flights left as often as they did. For him to say that the majority of North Somerset residents benefit from the airport is just his opinion.'
