A Hilton hotel could be built next to Durham Tees Valley Airport, the Herald & Post reports. A planning application to build the 130-bedroom hotel has been submitted to Darlington Council. If approved, the hotel would be operated under the Hampton by Hilton brand, which aims to provide ‘a new kind of economy hotel’.
Developer C J Leonard of Guisborough wants to build the hotel on the site of the vacant Lancaster House building, which would be demolished to make way for the four-storey building, which would have with parking for 134 cars. The application states the proposed development ‘intends to provide a high quality service to an expanding market, which is being facilitated through the growth of the airport.’ The company has already received permission for a 74-bedroomed hotel on the site, but wants this varied to allow a bigger development.
