East Midlands Airport reported a 5% increase in passengers last month. The figures, released today, show 563,150 people passed thought the terminal in June.
Non-EU destinations saw the biggest rise, up 17%. The airport says that the growth suggests UK holidaymakers are looking for bargain holidays in countries outside the euro zone, such as Turkey.
Penny Coates, the airport's managing director, said: ‘We're delighted to have exceeded half a million passengers for the second month in a row. We have now enjoyed growth in passenger numbers for nine successive quarters.'
The airport also celebrated the announcement of 3 new routes with Ryanair this month, with flights to Faro, Fuerteventura and Prague all set to take off at the end of October 2008.
