Firefighters were called to the Travelodge Hotel in Lowfield Heath at 12:00 on Friday August 8 after guests reported a strong smell of gas. The hotel was completely evacuated and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to track down the source of the leak.
Using hand held gas detectors the firefighters traced the gas leak to a room on the second floor. They identified an air conditioning unit in a second floor room as the source. Guests were allowed back in to the hotel after around an hour, but the second floor was out of use until the air conditioning unit was fixed.
