Flyglobespan passengers endure 17 hour delay

31.07.08

Over 250 passengers endured 17-hour delay at Glasgow Airport last night and this morning, the Evening Times reports. The problem was caused by a technical fault on a Flyglobespan plane, believed to have been with one of the wheels of an aircraft returning from Calgary yesterday.

Passengers on yesterday's 16:15 flight to Calgary were stuck at the airport until after midnight last night after a fault was found on the plane. They were then put in airport hotels or sent home for the night, but many had just a few hours' sleep before needing to be back to the airport at 07:00 this morning - only to find they faced a further 3 hour delay whilst they waited for a replacement aircraft, the newspaper reports.

A Flyglobespan spokeswoman apologised for the delay and told the Evening Times: ‘Passengers were advised to return home or were offered overnight accommodation in an airport hotel. They were given regular updates and to minimise the delay, another aircraft that was operating on another route was re-allocated to the Glasgow-Calgary-Vancouver service, which departed at 10:40 today.’
